This Privacy Policy describes how KSM × Tech ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the Margadarshak mobile application ("the App"). Margadarshak is a career guidance application designed for Indian students and their parents.

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

This policy is designed to comply with Google Play Developer Program Policies, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), and applicable international privacy standards.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information through the App's onboarding process and during usage, solely to provide personalised career guidance:

A. Profile Information (collected during onboarding)

• Name — to personalise the App experience
• Role — whether you are a Student or Parent
• Education stage and details — current class/level, education board (CBSE, ICSE, State Board, etc.), stream (Science, Commerce, Arts, Vocational), branch or discipline
• Location — state and city (used for state-specific admission rules, scholarships, and exam eligibility)
• Eligibility factors — reservation category, family income bracket, PwD (Person with Disability) status (used exclusively for eligibility checks against official criteria)
• Interests and target exams — areas of interest and competitive exams you are considering
• Dream goal and backup preference — your preferred career path and backup option

B. Usage Data

• App interaction data (screens visited, features used) for improving the App experience
• Preferences and settings you configure within the App

C. User-Generated Content

• Survey responses and feedback submitted through the Student Voice feature (institution and course reviews)
• Pair codes used in the Family Bridge feature for parent-child linking

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

• Provide stage-aware career guidance tailored to your education level and profile
• Check your eligibility for courses, exams, entrance tests, and scholarships
• Simulate the impact of subject or stream changes on your career options
• Show relevant career roadmaps, exam information, and backup routes
• Enable Parent Mode features including Family Bridge pairing and shared path saves
• Power the AI Mentor with context about your stage to provide grounded guidance
• Display relevant Student Voice feedback about institutions and courses

We do not use your information for:

• Advertising or ad targeting
• Selling or renting data to third parties
• User profiling for non-educational purposes
• Behavioural tracking or analytics beyond App improvement

3. How We Store Your Data

Current version: All personal data is stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage (SharedPreferences within the App's private sandbox). Your data is not transmitted to, or stored on, any external server, cloud service, or third-party platform.

Future versions: If we introduce cloud-based features (such as account creation, data synchronisation, or cloud backup), we will:

• Update this Privacy Policy before enabling those features
• Notify you through the App before any cloud data transfer occurs
• Obtain your explicit consent before transmitting data to servers
• Use industry-standard encryption (TLS 1.2+) for all data in transit
• Store cloud data on secure, certified infrastructure

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal data to any third party.

Current version: No data leaves your device. The App operates entirely offline with respect to personal data.

When cloud features are introduced, we may share limited data with the following types of service providers, solely to operate the App:

• Cloud infrastructure providers (for secure data storage)
• Authentication services (for account creation and login)
• AI service providers (for the AI Mentor feature, with anonymised or de-identified queries)

In all cases:

• Third-party providers will be contractually bound to use your data only for providing their services to us
• We will update this Privacy Policy before any such sharing begins
• No third party will have the right to use your data for their own purposes

5. Children's and Minor's Privacy

Margadarshak is designed for students from Class 9 onwards (typically ages 14 and above). We take the privacy of minors seriously.

For users under 18 years of age:

• We follow the principle of data minimisation — we collect only what is strictly necessary to provide career guidance
• Sensitive features require guardian awareness or consent
• Personal assessment results, eligibility checks, and profile details are never publicly exposed without consent
• The Parent Mode (Family Bridge) enables guardians to actively participate in the guidance process and review shared information
• We do not engage in behavioural tracking, profiling, or targeted advertising of any user, including minors
• User-generated content (Student Voice) is subject to moderation and does not require or expose personal identity

Compliance with applicable laws:

• India's DPDP Act, 2023: We process minor's data in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Verifiable parental consent mechanisms will be implemented as required under the DPDP Rules when cloud-based data processing is introduced.
• Google Play Families Policy: The App is not enrolled in the Designed for Families program. The target audience is set to 13+ in the Google Play Store listing.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data:

• All personal data is stored within the App's private storage sandbox on your device, inaccessible to other applications
• Any future network communication will use HTTPS with TLS 1.2+ encryption
• No personal data is currently stored on external servers
• We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the current version
• The App does not request unnecessary device permissions

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

A. Right to Access

View all data the App holds about you through the Profile and Settings screens within the App.

B. Right to Correction

Update or modify your information at any time through the App's Settings or by re-completing the onboarding flow.

C. Right to Erasure (Data Deletion)

Delete all your personal data by:

• Using the "Delete My Data" option within the App's Settings screen
• Clearing the App's data from your device's Settings (Settings → Apps → Margadarshak → Clear Data)
• Uninstalling the App, which permanently removes all locally stored data

Since all data is currently stored locally on your device, deletion is immediate and complete. There is no server-side copy to recover.

D. Right to Withdraw Consent

You may stop using the App at any time. Since data is stored locally, no further processing occurs once you stop using the App.

E. Right to Grievance Redressal

Under the DPDP Act, 2023, you have the right to raise grievances regarding our data practices. Contact us using the details provided in Section 12 below.

8. Data Retention

• Your data is retained on your device for as long as the App is installed and you choose to keep your profile
• Uninstalling the App or clearing App data permanently and irrevocably deletes all stored information
• There is no server-side backup, sync, or recovery mechanism in the current version
• When cloud features are introduced, we will specify retention periods and provide deletion mechanisms accessible even after App uninstallation

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Margadarshak mobile application does not use cookies, web beacons, pixels, or similar tracking technologies.

10. Permissions

The App requests only the minimum device permissions required for core functionality:

The App does not request access to: Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Phone, SMS, Location (GPS), Storage (external), Calendar, or Sensors.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, features, or legal requirements. When we do:

• The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised
• For significant changes (such as introducing cloud data storage or new data collection), we will provide prominent notice through the App
• Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy
